Motherly advice followed by cute animal photos

12/30/2010

Since we're close to the new year, I thought I'd give you a little motherly advice to carry you into 2011.

Okay, where to start...

- Never eat a hot dog from a quickie mart. Ever.

- If you have trouble figuring things out the first time, don't skydive.

- That bit about wearing clean underwear just in case you get into an accident? It really is a good idea. (Don't ask how I know this, just trust me.)

- The only thing to fear is fear itself...and creepy guys that hang out at the mall...and green lunch meat...and sheer mountain drop offs...and -- Oh, for crying out loud! Who made up that crappy saying? There is PLENTY to fear so always keep your eyes open.

Sorry guys, that's all I've got for now. I promise to post more later. To round things out, how about a sickeningly sweet sentiment accompanied by super cute animal photos? Yes, I know. It's not my style, but I've had fluffy puppies on the brain all week and I need to purge. Be warned, though, the following message has so much sugar it may induce your gag reflex. Grab your barf bag and let's go!

UPDATE: Okay, here's the deal. The original post did have a super syrupy little story accompanied by cute animal photos. At the time, the photos used were all listed as 'free-use.' Well, lo and behold, one of the 'free-use' photos I used was just spotted on a greeting card. Looks like the photographer, unbeknowst to me, cashed in and sold the dang thing. Good for the photographer. Bad for me. Truth be told, I kinda freaked out. So I decided to go back and scrap the story. Tragic, I know., but I had to. But never fear, if you came here for cute animal photos I will not disappoint. Below, please find some Creative Commons photos of little cutie patooties. That's right. I'm not just looking out for me, but for you, too. **HUGS**

Sweet, but not sickeningly so. I was in the mood for a little sugar. Have a happy 2011.

nothingprofound,
Glad you don't think it's sickening. A teen girl might disagree, though! ;) Hope you have a great 2011, too.

JIm,

If cute animals don't do it, I don't know what will.

Why, Google? Why? :)

I liked this post and the photos were a cute touch. While it’s not always necessary to include images in your posts doing so adds interest and eye appeal. Also when it comes to bringing search engine traffic to blogs, images do that. Even if readers do not like your posts, image searches can bring your blog hits. This post in my blogging tips blog contains tips for SEO of images.

As someone wrote above, it's a sweet entry. But a nice read to enjoy a mid-afternoon cup of coffee with.

All the best to you in 2011.

TT,
Glad you liked the post! Since everyone is doing the holiday hustle this year, I thought I'd go less words and more photos. And thanks for the SEO tips! You are always so helpful.

PhotoDiction,
Sometimes a little sweet amidst all the sarcasm is just what the doctor ordered. I guess I'm just feeling a little warmy and fuzzy during this holiday season. Wish you the best, too!

jay.me,
Go ahead and say it -- the pics WERE too sweet. That's why I loved them so much.

Justus,
Leave it to you to focus on the underwear part. ;) BTW, I really am serious about that piece of advice. Hard to learn the hard way on that one, I'm afraid.

I'm scared of the creepy guys who hang out at the mall too. :(

Oh, and TOO RIGHT about the hotdogs. Those things induce the worst gut rot EVER! Avoid at all costs!

The post wasn't sickly sweet at all. It was great! :)

Franklin D. Roosevelt said "The only thing to fear is fear itself" (No, I did not look that up right now).
I try to follow that, actually, but you're right: there IS a lot to fear. He was probably trying to comfort many people though, as the president during World War II (which was definitely a fearful time, if people today are still shuddering from it).

Katja,

Smart girl! Confession: I knew he was the one who said it. It was part of his inaguural address in 1932 (another confession: I had to look that date up) which was right in the midst of the Depression. Hundreds of thousands of people were without jobs, losing their homes, etc. Though it was years before WWII, it was also a very scary time. Still, I'm impressed by your knowledge. Kudos!

Juliana,
I had the same luck with hamsters, though in my youth one did escape from his cage and managed to live iin our house an entire year. You heard me. Found him a year later scurrying down the hall while the family cat chased him. Weirdest thing ever.
