I know, I know. I saw the folks on TV celebrating, chanting and waving banners, too. They certainly looked like they were having a good time. I'm just having a hard time feeling joy, myself. In fact, I feel kind of sad.
I remember when 9/11 happened. I saw the towers go down. I watched in horror as thousands of people died. The whole world darkened that day. As cool as getting Osama bin Laden was, it reminded me what he took away.
And that is so much less fun than comparing a hat to a latch pull for a fancy iron gate.
Please don't misunderstand. I'm glad bin Laden is gone. Knowing he's no longer among us gives me great comfort, and I'm sure it brings some sort of peace to the families who lost loved ones thanks to him. I guess I just wish we lived in a world with more weddings, a world with a little less death.
I also wish we lived in a world with more crazy hats. They're always good for a chuckle.
