So your mom dresses weird...
Now I realize dressing weird can mean a number of things. Maybe your mom looks like the poster child for L.L. Bean, with high rise jeans and a turtleneck in every color. Or maybe she’s one of those ‘hip’ moms who takes the latest fad, multiplies it by ten, then completes the look with a little bronzer and hairspray. Let’s not forget bag lady mom, with her dumpy sweatshirts, faded denim, a row of worn gym shoes in the closet. The list goes on, but the question remains the same: does she dress that way to punish you?The answer is ‘no’. (Most of the time. If you yell at her about how ‘embarrassing’ it was when she rang the doorbell at last night’s party instead of texting you a third time that she was STILL waiting for you in the car, then she might show up next time in bright green lipstick and a tutu. ) Truth is, she’s doing the best she can. My advice? Give her advice. She female, too, you know, so go ahead and use that tried-and-true bonding agent: clothes. Just make sure to be nice. Point out a cute shirt in a catalog and say, “Wouldn’t this look cool on you?” Or tell her you saw a nice sweater at the mall the other day that was perfect for her, would she like to go and check it out? Sure, she might faint dead away - moms aren’t used to daughters suggesting a shopping trip that doesn’t center on themselves - but when she comes to, I bet she’ll be smiling. And who knows, if she takes you up on the offer, you might get a new outfit out of the deal. Not a bad bonus.
