More vacation stuff....
So you just read my summer vacation post featuring fun Washington, D.C. facts and you still can't get enough of me, huh? Well here are some personal thoughts that hit the cutting room floor. Read them if you're bored.
The most disturbing breaking news while away:
The horrible tragedy in Norway. 92 dead due to one troubled man. It not only made me sad but really shook me up.
The second most disturbing breaking news while away:
The introduction of ‘Breast Milk Baby,’ a toy doll that comes with a special
halter top so children can simulate breast feeding. What’s next, a play kit called ‘My First Period?’
Most disturbing thing I saw on the trip:
A woman walking in front of me on the sidewalk who -- oh my god, please tell me she at least had a thong on-- had on these tiny white shorts that were so tight they COMPLETELY went up her butt crack. Got that image firmly planted in your mind? Good. Consider it my gift to you.
I was witness to an instant loss of credibility:
While my family was casually walking past the White House, history was being made! A protest against deportation was being held, complete with chants and picket signs. It was pretty cool to watch. One sign that stood out to me was neon green, held with pride by a tall young man. I’ll be honest, I didn’t read the saying on the front. I was too mesmerized by the words on the back. Spray painted in white were the words ‘Car Wash.’
Huh. Now I’m not going to get into the politics of the situation, but will
suggest that if you’re going to go all ‘big time’ and demonstrate in front of
the White House, head over to your local craft supply store and purchase a new poster board. Seriously.
The trip keepsake I will treasure for all of my years:
My black coffee mug featuring a mutton-chopped Elvis Presley shaking hands with then president, Richard Nixon, at the White House. I actually ‘squeed’ in the National Archives gift shop when I saw it. My kids faces grew red in horror when they heard me -- double bonus!! ;)
