twinkie in coffin
NOOOOOOO!
I’m so depressed. If you haven’t heard yet, Hostess Brands is filing for bankruptcy and I’m not at all pleased. Not only do they make Wonder Bread, but a ton of deliciously sugarific snacks to include Ho Hos, Ding Dongs, Donettes, Suzy Qs, Sno Balls and Twinkies.

I’ve got to say, if someone doesn’t step in and buy them I’m going to have a serious hissy fit. Not that hissy fits are serious. They’re actually pretty lame. Remember that kid whose mom cancelled his World of Warcraft account?

Yeah.

Anyway, I’m sad. It’s like my childhood took one in the gut. Oh, the memories! All those days opening my lunch box to find a completely smashed Ho Ho with its chocolately layer flaked off and sticking to the wrapper. Such good times. And those Hostess fruit pies -- at close to 500 calories, I never realized apples could be so unhealthy. I'm sorry, I mean delicious. Seriously, the U.S. is so close to a breakthrough in Type III Diabetes development. Discontinuing these snacks would be a giant step back.

I don't know how I'll be able to stand the "ding dong" of the doorbell. What’s worse, the holidays are coming. Santa’s “ho ho!” will sound so hollow. As for kids throwing snow balls? Oh, the humanity! Also, from now on I’ll have to “nut up or shut up” when I watch Woody Harrelson hunt for Twinkies in Zombieland. That movie was once one of my favorite comedies. Now it’s a heart-breaking drama!

So please, someone -- anyone -- save my snacks from extinction. I don’t think my heart could take it. At the same time, my gut probably wouldn’t mind -- or my thighs, or my butt. You get the picture.

Whilst reading your post, I've had SO many flavor flashbacks...the golden spongy cakey goodness of a Twinkie, the creamy white filling of Ding Dongs, Ho Hos, Twinkies, SnoBalls, and Hostess cupcakes (wait...every dang one of their snack cakes was chock full of that stuff!), the artificially flavored chocolate coating that enrobed various snack cakes, the fruit pies, the chocolate and lemon pies, the high fructose corn syrup, the preservatives...num num num! Even though I haven't eaten one of these goodies in years, I mourn their loss. Farewell, Hostess Snack Cakes and Pies.

Alas, it is a sad day. So many memories, so many calories. I'm really going to miss them! My favorite was the apple fruit pies. I had one once a year. That was all the calories I could afford to eat! But Twinkies? There is something so magically nostalgic about them. Mourn their loss, indeed!

Man I am sad, I am imagining biting into a Twinkie right now.

Eating Twinkies is an experience I wanted to share with my son, and his future children, but alas maybe I never will.

I have hope that someone will buy them out and we will see them again soon, but who knows ?

I know, it is sad! I bet someone will buy them out. The snacks are just way too popular. For your kids and grandkids, I hope that's the case!

I am crying thinking of a life without the devil's cupcakes with cream in the center. Who knows? It could be a marketing ploy then again it may not be and the world will be a sadder place.

Those cream-filled centers -- such heartbreak! Let's cross our fingers hoping another company swoops them up.

I was really sad when I first heard the news of them going out of business. And then I thought to myself, "Do I even eat Twinkies?" I honestly can't remember the last time I had a Twinkie and now I regret not having them more. I went out the other day to find one, but there wasn't nothing left. Blah. Hopefully someone buys it out and I can have a Twinkie!

I hear you. Now that I'm older, my metabolism has slowed to a snail's pace, so I can't eat snacks like I used to. But with all of the press, I'm really hankering for a twinkie, too....and a fruit pie....and a ho ho....You ge the idea.
